The Bellingham Yacht Club 16th Annual Autumn Equinox Cruise is September 20-22, 2019.

Everyone, boaters, non-boaters and friends are invited join us for our annual Autumn Equinox cruise this September 20-22 in Blaine at the Semiahmoo Marina for a relaxing weekend anda great end to our Bellingham Yacht Club cruising season.  This year we are going to sail to a new land (at least a new Marina for us), we are going to Semiahmoo Marina in Blaine.  This affords everyone in the Club, as well as friends of the Club, the opportunity to easily participate in a cruise that can be reached in 30 minutes by car, 1 ½ hours by boat, and just 10 minutes from the airport by helicopter. The schedule is:

Friday night, September 20th– Boats, cars and helicopters arrive any time during the day. We will have a potluck reception at the top of the dock at 1800.  At 1900 we have three extremely talented musicians and their band, “Sheerwater”. They will be performing music we all know from the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s.  “Sheerwater”are featured performers at Semiahmoo Resort. (Don’t forget to drop your crab pots on the way in, crabbing is still open up in Blaine)

Saturday morning, September 21st:

  1. For those who would like to work out at 0600, we will meet at the entrance to the Spa and John will sign you in (if you’re staying at the hotel, the spa is open for your entire visit)
  2. Potluck breakfast (bring your favorite breakfast item) at the top of the dock at 0900 (although the marina store has some pretty good breakfast sandwich’s and expresso starting at 0700).

Saturday afternoon, September 21st:

  1. We will be leading a walk for a little over a mile down the Semiahmoo peninsula to the Alaska Packers Association Cannery Museum. The cannery served as a center for salmon processing for nearly 80 years and is housed in an original cannery building. This is well worth the walk, and definitely covers this history of one of the most important canneries in Northwest Washington.
  2. After returning from the cannery, it will be a great time to pull those crab pots that you put out on Friday (if you have not yet done it). The check-in for the crab contest will be at 1700, and don’t forget the largest crab (and smallest) both win a prize.
  3. At 1800 we will have our potluck dinner (again at the top of the dock), and the crab cookers should be full! Following will be our annual fire with stories of cruising during 2019. As always, food will be plentiful, stories told, and memories of cruises past shared.

Sunday, September 22nd:

  1. For those who would like to work out at 0600, we will meet at the entrance to the Spa and John will sign you in (if you’re staying at the hotel, the spa is open for your entire visit)
  2. The Marina Store will be open for a breakfast sandwich and an expresso, and we will plan on meeting in the Store at 0800 for a bite to eat before we all end our formal Bellingham Yacht Club cruising season.

A Few Notes:

The weather is typically warm, the winds light, and the water calm.  Boaters of all ages – experienced and learning, members new and old, as well as seafarers on their first cruise, all join together to mark the seasons transition with the Autumn Equinox.

Semiahmoo Resort has rooms that people without boats can book, which includes access to the Spa, Health club and Packers Lounge, known for its specialty food and drink.

Finally, Semiahmoo is just a short drive from Bellingham, so those who may not be able to join us for the entire weekend, you are welcome for any part of it!
