What an incredible 3-day Memorial Day weekend trip we had to Fisherman’s Bay on Lopez Island! We arrived Friday evening to sunny, warm weather and filled up the marina with a fleet of 21 boats! Our dinner which consisted of everyone’s favorite appetizers was completed by a special beverage the younger cruisers concocted, “Jungle Juice” which had a little of everything in it and it was tasty! Thanks to Mike Allsop for catching some fresh spot prawns that evening and sharing with all of us, YUM!!! After a casual evening of boat hopping and hanging out on the dock, some folks enjoyed a nice soak in the hot tub.

Saturday morning many of us walked, biked or shuttled over to the Farmer’s Market. We left with some great finds from the local coffee roasting company, fresh veggies, pastries and locally made arts and crafts. Strolling through the quaint town visiting galleries, restaurants and shops was so much fun! Our dockside potluck Saturday evening with some of our favorite shrimp dishes was delicious! Saturday night gathering on La Siesta, we were treated to a wonderful sing-a-long with Alethia playing her acoustic guitar and singing her favorite tunes! To end a perfect day, the night owls among us put on our dancing shoes and visited the Tiki Lounge for some dancing to some old rock and roll!

Lopez is a great place for bike riding and several folks enjoyed a leisurely scenic ride to nearby beaches and a longer ride to Shark’s Reef.

Sunday brunch was nice on the dock and gave us more opportunity to enjoy getting to know some new folks. There we’re so many fun activities to keep our members entertained everyday including games of horseshoes, fishing, going to garage & estate sales and kayaking too! Sunday we had a fabulous Mexican themed dinner with hot and spicy fajitas, everyone brought their favorite side dishes and we shared a huge batch of yummy margaritas!! We also celebrated 4 birthdays that evening: Bob Santosuosso (Jim & Mark’s father turned 80!), Neil Bennett, Adam Jordan and Ryan McCarty.

It was great to see so many new faces cruising with us to Lopez! With better than anticipated weather and calm seas, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend on the water.

Thanks to all who helped make our 1st cruise to Lopez Island so awesome! A special thank you to our new BYC member Vickie Olson, my co-host, for her help in planning this cruise. Unfortunately due to a family emergency, she and her husband Chris were unable to attend the cruise.
