Welcome to Bellingham Yacht Club Cruising!

2017 promises to be another active cruising season with several fun cruises planned throughout the islands.  This year, in addition to our traditional favorites, we have added more joint cruises with other clubs and a couple of longer cruises. There are lots of opportunities for everyone to get involved in cruising with the club and it is a great way to make new friends! Remember to sign up as early as possible!

You can register for or view who is attending a cruise event from the links found in the specific calendar event below or you can click the shortcut here to go directly to the “2017 Cruise Registration Forms” which is a table containing links to each of this year’s cruise events.

2017 Camp Sucia Cruise @ Fossil Bay
Aug 11 – Aug 13 all-day

sucia island

This is a joint cruise with the Bellingham Power Squadron.
We will be heading for Fossil Bay where we encourage participants to either anchor out, take a mooring ball or tie up to the two available docks. The docks and mooring balls are first come first served and there is a fee for their use. We do encourage those already on the docks to allow others to raft up where possible.
Friday night we host a dock tail party on the main dock nearest the shelter. Everyone is asked to contribute something to the event and BYOB.
We will provide breakfast Saturday and Sunday morning and the main dish on Saturday night at no cost to participants. Everyone brings a side dish and or dessert to share. We ask that everyone bring there own place settings and beverages to all meals. These meals are served in the shelter at the top of the main dock.
Saturday during the day we traditionally have a series of optional activities including a morning hike or fun run, a photo treasure hunt for the kids and parents, and an educational seminar. Some go crabbing, hiking, tide pooling and fishing.
In the past we have held a BBQ on Saturday night’s dinner but the last couple of years fire regulations have kept us from doing that. So we have provided sandwich fixings with roast beef, ham and turkey.
Following the dinner we have a campfire, if it is allowed, and play group games or sing sea chanteys, tell stories or some other entertainment.
Members should RSVP us no later than 4 August so we know how to prepare.

Daily nautical miles traveled will range from 20 to 40 with an average of 30.  The 2 longest days are 40 miles between Eggmont and PLI since there is nowhere to stop in between.  We will be following the West Coast of BC up to PLI and then returning through the Gulf Islands with stops at Naniamo and Ganges.  You are welcome to join us for all or part of this cruise depending on your preference and availability.

The deadline to sign up for the cruise is July 15, 2017.  We will schedule a ‘Cruise Meeting’ in early August to present the final cruise plan and answer any last-minute answer questions.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Rich Hanset at RHanset@sbcglobal.net.
